FAO Shop Fundamentals

Supporting young designers: How FAO Shop came to be

FAO Shop is a labour of love for university friends Gemma Fabbri, a furniture designer and curator and Aey Aspdin, a fashion entrepreneur. After university, Gemma founded Scene, an award-winning, London-based, multidisciplinary design studio while Aey worked in fashion and became a director of a luxury handbag brand.

Aey and Gemma set up FAO Shop to support fledgling artists and designers and provide a platform for them to sell directly to a global market without the day-to-day concerns of running their own retail operation.

Carefully curated selection

FAO Shop actively seeks out beautifully crafted, unusual products – from cutting-edge fashion must-haves to limited-edition artworks.

We pride ourselves on building personal relationships with designers and our team scouts press, trade shows and colleges to find the most promising talent who are then invited to sell their products on FAO Shop. FAO then maintains ongoing relationships with its stable of creatives to keep abreast of their latest projects and products. Our product range will always be evolving to not only feature timeless classics but also reflect new trends .

Truly unique products, direct from designer to your home

At FAO Shop you can find out more about the new names in design via their own dedicated pages as well as buy limited edition and one-off items.

We have used our experience to carefully source an eclectic product list where respected designers line up alongside acclaimed young design talent to create a stand out range of items that you’ll find hard to discover on the high street.

Outstanding customer service

Premium products demand premium service.

We ship direct from designers studios across the UK and beyond to your door.

In the unlikely event purchases go astray, we’re available to help. Call or email us and we’ll answer any questions, one to one.

The FAO Shop difference

Quarterly online magazine

Each month we lovingly shoot our favourite fashion, art and objects to show how they can look and work together to style a room.

We also commission exclusive editorial features from leading critics on the most promising design talent.

All of this can be found in our free online FAO Magazine. Our editorial objective is to create a contemporary, indispensable guide to new design. Sign up and we’ll mail you the next issue when it’s ready.

Pop-up shops

Rather than just staying permanently virtual and online, we occasionally like to venture into the real world, meet customers, share our passion for design and take FAO Shop to the streets via our Pop-up shops.

We’ve previously had a pop-up shop at the largest destination for design & culture Design Junction , designed in collaboration with artist and set designer Andy McGregor that featured a selection of beautiful fashion, art and objects from Bethan Gray, Knotted, Danielle Vroeman, Daniel & Emma, Jill Shaddock, Red Brick North and Another Country

FAO will be hitting the road again with many more pop-up shops planned at major design and retail events throughout the year.
